One of the things about having a camera next to you all the time is you just never know when you’re going to need it.

Take Wednesday. I was sitting down to write some emails and edit some photos when I got a call from a friend at The Scranton Times. He called to check on me because he heard over the police scanner there was a fire near my house. It turns out it was almost right across the street. When I ran out the front door, I was hit with a huge cloud of smoke. The first firetruck was speeding up my road. There were flames everywhere. The garage of the home was engulfed. I should stop for a second and say that no one was hurt, thank God. Also, a huge thank you to the volunteer firefighters who do an incredible job. When I saw the fire, I thought there was no way the  house wasn’t going to be a total loss. It was so hot and and moving so quickly. Within minutes they had it under control and saved most of the main part of the house. A big thank you to Chinchilla Hose Company and everyone else who responded. You don’t get nearly enough credit for the work you do.

As for the photos, it’s not the first time I’ve shot a fire. There’s an adrenaline that comes with it but also a sadness. You’re watching a home be destroyed. It’s so far from the beautiful moments we usually shoot. It’s obviously no less important but it struck me about the power of a camera. At the heart of it is the emotion. I guess that’s always the constant that draws people to it. At least that the draw for me. I suspect I’m not alone.

OK, this is the second time you will see some photos of Cameron, but we love her so much we had to bring her back to the studio for more. Our loyal readers will recognize her from some shots we did last year in Nicholson. We really wanted to get her in our studio, so we asked if she wanted to come back to grab some more shots. It was absolutely worth it. She is really comfortable having her photo taken and we love working with her. Honestly, we really like having her mom around too. She brings great energy and always keeps things loose. There’s a photo of the two of them together, too.

So you can see some of the shots  below. We also wanted to remind seniors, if we took your senior photos and you refer other students who book their senior photos with us, we will give you $100 cash.  Plus we will give $100 cash to the friend you  refer to us.  It’s time for you guys who are finishing your junior year and heading into your senior year to start booking, so give us a call or email us at twosticksstudios@gmail.com. Now I gotta run to the bank to get some cash because I just checked my email and another person just  booked  with us.

One year ago today, Steph called me to say that the doctor was keeping her at the hospital for high blood pressure. A few hours later, we had our second child and our first son.

It seems like it was just yesterday and years ago all at the same time. I’m sure anyone with kids knows what I mean. I won’t go into all the moments that made up that crazy first year, just some photos that made up the crazy photo session.

Lincoln did so much better than I thought he would. He discovered he REALLY liked icing…until Steph decided he was being a little too clean and gentle with his enjoyment of one of man’s most delicious creations. He wasn’t quite as happy after she shoved him into the cake. Good thing his sister was around to cheer him up again.

Happy birthday little man!

Yeah I used to  be the guy that carried around a couple of pictures in my wallet. For you kids out there, yes people used to do that. It’s how when someone asked “how’s the family,” you’d respond. You reach into your wallet and pull out a a crumpled  and usually torn photo of the family. Now you whip out  your phone and show the picture you got at the last birthday party.

We’re going to make that easier. We now have an app that our clients can get after their photos are done that has their images.  The icon even appears as one of the photos from the shoot. The best part is you can share the app with your  family and friends so when mom asks for a photo, just shoot her the link and she can gush with her friends as she she shows them your wedding photos or family portraits or senior photos  or whatever.

Most of our senior portraits are done on location. We’ve done them on college campuses and train tracks and just about anywhere. We’ve traveled quite a bit to do them. But last week we were able to do some in our studio for a change. It has an industrial feel that we were able to utilize along with using our normal backdrops. We really love the feel of the images. It helps that we had Maura and Jen as our seniors.  They were so easy to work with. We can’t wait to do more senior portraits in the studio.

Here are some of the photos:

Two weekends ago, I caught up with some old friends for a little mini-family reunion near Tunkhannock.  It’s not the type of job I do often but I really enjoyed it, especially because they were friends I don’t get to see nearly enough. In fact, the dad was my high school gym teacher. They are just great people to be around and so welcoming, it was like being  part of the family. And because it had been such a long time since I had seen them, I got to see all of their kids, which is always amazing to me.  It was great to catch up with them and grab some shots they can enjoy.  Here are a few.
