Two Sticks Studios – Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Poconos Wedding Photographers » Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Poconos Wedding Photography, Senior Photography and Portrait Photography

I might have mentioned this before but I have a lot of photos hanging up around my house. Most of them are crooked. All of them are spaced poorly and I love all of them. There are photos of friends I see all the time and ones I never see. There are family photos and way too many of my kid. She’s a willing photo subject. I even have one of two of my wife – not the most willing model you’ll ever meet.

There’s also something I’m going to add – if I can find room. We sell quite a few canvases in our sales meetings. One of the reasons is the flexibility. They can be almost any size, which means you don’t have to get expensive custom framing and they offer some great design options. This is really the part I love. It’s the ability to combine some photos in a series in a nice clean canvas.

I’d go on and on about the benefits but I’m just going to show you two of them we did for our friends Katie and Scott of their daughters Clare and Grace. Props to Katie for the matching outfits. It may have taken two sessions, but it was well worth it! The girls were very animated and stinkin’ adorable!

I totally knocked something off my bucket list over the weekend. Actually, I don’t have a bucket list, but if I did this would be on it. Hell, I might even start one now because this was that much fun.

First a little background. I was in Philly to do some engagement photos for Lisa and John, who by the way were  amazing. We’ll post some photos of that trip here soon. There will probably be a few blog posts out of that because it was such a good time. Anyway, some of the photos we did were near the Art Museum. Again, really cool but totally not the point. You Rocky fans know where I’m going with this. On the opposite side of the museum from where we were doing the photos were the steps Rocky ran up as he was getting ready to fight Apollo Creed. It’s only one of the great scenes in cinematic history.

Here’s where I should stop and thank Lisa and John. This day was supposed to be entirely about you. Sorry! You guys were so cool to head around the museum and hang out while I ran the steps. Thanks also to Bob for laying on the ground and taking video for me so I would have it for all time and for this blog. Oh, and thanks for finding the theme music  to put with it.

Now that all the thank yous are done, let’s talk about the run. UNBELIEVABLE. I was totally jacked up when I hopped out of the car. I was ready to go but Bob had to get the camera ready, but while I was waiting a car pulled up behind us and started blaring the Rocky music. Now, I seriously wanted to take off. I don’t even know if Bob was ready but he told me to “go already.” I felt like I was going super fast. The video seems to show differently. I tried to take two and three steps at a time just like Rocky did it – you know to keep it real. I was a little surprised when I reached the top. I thought I was at the top but there’s a landing of sorts before there are a few more steps. Didn’t expect  that. I was so pumped when I got up there. In case you’re wondering, I did the little arms raised dance at the top too. There were a bunch of guys up there just kind of looking at me like I was the idiot. I’m sure they did the exact same thing right before  I showed up. They just kept kind of looking at me. Who cares? Anyway, since no one seemed chatty at the top I didn’t know what to do so I just came back down – running the whole time of course.

Cross that off the list.

What’s next?

Any suggestions?

I almost  forgot, here’s the video.

A couple of posts ago, we detailed the most-ridiculous senior offer on the planet. Seniors can get their photos done for free and get $500 in prints – all free. Here are all the details of the offer from a  previous post we did.

Today, we wanted to show off a little of the marketing we have in some schools around the area. We wanted to highlight  some of the unbelievable seniors we have shot while  getting the word out about the promotions we are running. I personally love how these came out.

Remember, if you know any seniors, send them our way, you can make a little cash if you do.

I’m not really all that great in finding what I would consider game-changing equipment. I can admit that I also am not the guy who really looks for those type of things. That’s Bob’s department by default and he’s really good at it.

He reads a ton of reviews, scours blogs, reads industry magazines and everything else to stay current. It’s also how he comes up with some of our best purchases. Ranking right up there near the top is the BlackRapid strap system.

You’ll of course remember when he bought the Think Tank rolling camera case I mocked him pretty soundly. I called him all sorts of names and even questioned his manhood. Then I used it for 10 minutes and  bought one myself. I have a lot of stories like that. Bob likes when I tell them. Well, here’s another. The idea of the rapid strap allows a photographer to comfortably carry a couple of cameras at the same time. Not revolutionary, but still important. It’s especially helpful for weddings when it’s smart to  have both a wide and telephoto zoom lens close at hand.   But  there are some things that make this system unique. First, it can be separated and used  as only one sling strap that is so comfortable any strap that isn’t done this way is a waste of time. Second, the design allows the cameras to hang and move naturally as you do. The system which you attach the camera allows it to slide comfortably up into a shooting position and then down  again with  no fear of ever dropping your camera.

It’s simply amazing and I’m not sure how I shot anything with traditional straps before.

Here is a description from the company website:

This Double R-Strap is the most flexible BlackRapid straps available. Not only does it allow you to comfortably carry two cameras for extended periods at the same time, but you can even separate the two straps for use as a single strap.

Here are a few pics of it in action and some product shots.

By the way, if our friends at Black Rapid would like to make us sponsored photographers and shower us with riches, we’re game! Seriously, great job on a great product that helps photographers do their job better.

Hey all. I held off on a blog post on Thursday to bring you a SPECIAL PARADE DAY EDITION  BLOG POST tonight. I don’t want to waste a lot of time writing about the parade. Here it is nice and simple. My daughter and I went down and met Bob and his family for about an hour. We were on Wyoming Avenue across from the Ritz Theater – not a bad place for some parade watching. In between all of the festivities I was able to grab a shot or two. Here they are.  As always a great time!

We wanted to show a few pictures of some family photos we did at the studio not too long ago. These are Justin, Megan and little Justin. One of the photos is being used for The Scranton Times Mother’s Day edition. The rest are some family photos. It’s always amazing to me what kids can do to photos – even in a simple studio atmosphere. It can be hard to get comfortable in front of a camera. It can be even harder under the glare of studio lights. I swear if you want the  antidote to it, just add a kid. There are two photos in particular here that I love.

I love the black and white of Big Justin and little Justin. It was a moment before they expected a photo to be taken. It feels relaxed and unscripted. Justin  wasn’t too sure but he was outvoted by Megan, Bob, myself and little Justin. I also love the profile shot of Megan and little Justin pulled close together and Megan’s smile, which is totally focused on little Justin.  The vote on that one was unanimous. Here are the pics.

I almost forgot. Mustache binky = Good times
