A portrait for some friends | Cheryl and Ted Scranton Wedding

Here’s something a little different for our photography blog. Its about a portrait, but not the type of portrait we’re used to showing here.

I hate to sound all artsy fartsy, but I don’t really consider myself a photographer – I consider myself an artist. I really enjoy creating something from nothing. Painting, sculpture, woodwork, photography, design, so on and so on. But one of my first loves and something I still do almost every day is draw. Just putting a pencil to paper. I think keeping my hands in all of these forms of art helps to influence and improve the other.

I think my love of all types of art is something that drew Cheryl and Ted to choose us as their photographers for their wedding at theĀ Waldorf in Scranton last year. Ted is an awesome artist and designer in his own right. Check him out here:

Something unique that they wanted from their wedding day was an illustrated portrait to go along with their photography. I was more than happy to oblige – especially for such wonderful people. I love the photo they chose as the basis for the illustration because it wasn’t just a typical formal portrait, but a great candid moment from their wedding showing real joy. So here’s the photo they chose and the illustration I created for them:
