OK, so I like the Beatles. Hell, I like the Beatles a lot.

I don’t like the Beatles the way Kristina and Ren like the Beatles. No, these guys know their Fab Four. They have Sgt. Pepper’s costumes, Beatles haircuts. Ren is the Walrus. Also, none of that is true – I don’t think.

What they did have were some cool ideas for their engagement shoot. So where do you do the photos that will look nice but give them something a little Beatles-esque.

A yellow submarine? Surprisingly hard to find.

An octopus’ garden? Didn’t even look.

OK, that’s enough. It’s a strawberry field. As luck would have it we have some friends who own the best strawberry field in the land. So a big thanks to Doug Pallman and his family for letting use the field for the photos. You guys made us feel right at home and we can’t thank you enough.

So these are some of the pics from the field. But it’s only part one. The rest of Kristina and Ren’s photos were done downtown, and sure enough there was a little Beatles to be found in those too. We’ll do those in a later blog post.

Last weekend was an exciting one for Bob and I. We finally got to shoot a wedding we had been looking forward to for a long time now. We look forward to all of them, but Cheryl and Ted are two of the early adopters of Two Sticks Studios and we sincerely appreciate that. What a wedding. For me, it started with meeting Ted at his hotel room where I was met by some of the funniest guys I have ever met. I’d love to share a few of the jokes I heard as we were waiting to head to the ceremony but there is no room for them on a family blog post.  I know Bob had an equally good time getting photos of the girls beforehand.

Today’s photos are from the ceremony. It was an outside ceremony (God, those are really nice) at the Waldorf Park and Tiki Bar on East Mountain. And yeah, they know how to throw a party. The ceremony was touching and beautiful and Cheryl was gorgeous. I also loved that Ted was rocking the white tux. The rest of the guys wore black. So cool.

One last thought for any brides considering hiring Two Sticks Studios. WE CONTROL THE WEATHER. Ask Cheryl and Ted. They’ll tell ya. I gotta figure out a way to get that into our marketing material.

Jill Lauren Photography - I love the emotion you’ve captured. The guests and especially the groom. I can’t wait to see what part 2 looks like.
    Lovely images. Great job!ReplyCancel

In an earlier post, we showed you some photos from Tom and Stacey’s ceremony. Stacey was stunning. Tom, you were OK, too.:)But every ceremony gives way to a party. It’s the most fun for the guests and a lot of the time it’s most fun for the photographers. The drinks flowed (for the guests), the food was great and the music was right on. Who could ask for anything more?

Here are some shots from the reception at Calorusso La Palazzo in Moosic.

One day before Cheryl and Ted’s wedding, their venue is ready to roll. A little site work the morning before never hurt anyone.
By the way, being able to do blog posts from my phone is so cool!

After a weeklong rain delay, we are ready to roll with some photos from Bridget and Brian’s engagement session at Marywood University – a beautiful campus. As a little bonus, we were there on alumni weekend so the campus was packed with people coming back to relive their college days. It was fine though. We had a couple people shoot us some looks wondering what was going on, but I’m not sure that’s unusual. I tend to get a lot of weird looks whether I’m on a shoot or not.

Bridget and Brian were just great to work with. They were so easy going, patient  and seemed to enjoy the session. I don’t know if I’ve ever meet two people who smiled and laughed so easily and it really shows in their shots. Thanks again to them, and we can’t wait for the wedding!

I should apologize to the good people at RadioPopper. You deserved a review of your product much earlier than this. We have been using your system for a year and love it. For the uninitiated or those who still are using just a flash on-camera I better explain.

Radio Popper is a company that makes radio transmitters and receivers that trigger and coordinate the firing of off-camera flash units. As wedding photographers constantly on the go, I cannot tell you how critical this piece of technology has been to us. From sidelighting the first dance at a wedding to allowing some creative lighting with on-location engagement photos they are crazy reliable and effective. I’m not going to get into the technology that’s used to make it work because I’d probably only screw it up. I know this. Being able to fire off multiple off-cameras flashes with out any cables attached to my cameras or flashes is a total game-changer for guys who work almost exclusively on location.

I can also say there are some other big-name brands out there (I’m not naming names. You know who you are) that are not nearly as reliable. Here are some specs from the company’s website. I hope they don’t mind that I picked them up.

  • ETTL/iTTL
  • High Speed Sync up to 1/8000th
  • Canon and Nikon
  • 1,500′ Range
  • NO Line of Sight
  • NO Sunlight Interference
  • NO Cables
  • NO Programming or PC needed

Here are a few products shots of the RadioPoppers I use and a couple of shots that show just how valuable these are.
