Two Sticks Studios – Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Poconos Wedding Photographers » Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Poconos Wedding Photography, Senior Photography and Portrait Photography

As a parent of a two-year-old, I am all too aware of how hectic it can be to get ready for your day. I can’t even imagine being the parent of a one- and three-year-old and getting ready for my wedding day. Such was the case for Melissa and Ed.

The day started with everyone running late for the hair salon. Buddy and his stylists at Now Hair Studio in Scranton did a great job to get the girls out of there quickly looking great. Then, after going back to the Holiday Inn in Dickson City, Melissa was able to get her one-year-old dressed and get her dress on in what seemed like the blink of an eye. Oh yeah, she also answered about 20 phone calls without missing a beat. Melissa’s fiance, Ed, similarly had his hands full but never blinked in organizing his groomsmen and getting his three-year-old into the tux, out the door and into the church.

After running late for most of the day, since that what we do as parents, I couldn’t believe that the ceremony actually started pretty much on time.

Very impressive!

While a majority of our senior portraits are done outside and all of them are done on location , sometimes we will head inside looking for some other opportunities. In Lily’s case, we went to her parents’ home  – which is beautiful by the way – and took advantage of some great looking furniture and window light. Couple that with Lily, who is a complete doll, and we get some really unique stuff. Shooting in an unfamiliar location can pose some real challenges, but thinking outside of what you normally do can be a great opportunity to get different shots.

Dawn and Zach held their ceremony in one of the most beautiful churches we have had the pleasure to photograph. The architecture and painting in St. Leo’s Parish in Ashley, PA is amazing.

We tried anything we could to shoot up at the couple to include the crazy detail in the ceiling.

When it was time to walk up the aisle at the end of the ceremony, their 2-year-old son stole the show (as 2-year-olds tend to do). The poor little guy took a header off the bottom step after running up to the alter to be with mom and dad. He was fine and just decided to crawl the rest of the way.

I couldn’t believe when I showed up at Dawn’s house two hours before the ceremony and she was already in her dress. “I will be on time for my wedding,” she exclaimed. It’s pretty unusual for the bride to be completely ready to go by the time I arrive. It meant no photos of the dress hanging or putting on the dress or makeup, etc. What it did allow for was the perfect photo opportunity when we heard the Mr. Softee music getting louder and louder as the ice cream truck made its way through the neighborhood.

When Dawn saw the truck rounding the corner from her living room, she took off out the door to flag it down. The driver of the ice cream truck was so excited to see the bride that she forgot to put the truck in park, almost taking out the mother of the bride! Luckily she hopped back in the driver’s seat and put it in park before going back to the window to give Dawn her Jolly Rancher popsicle.

What seems like it came straight out of a sitcom wouldn’t have happened if Dawn wasn’t so determined to be on time for her wedding. I think Dawn would take this moment over some photos of her dress on a hanger any day.

Sometimes I really wished the camera loved me… or even liked me. Hell, I’d settle for just not making me look like an alien light bulb with a goatee. I swear there are cosmic forces that pushed me toward photography just so I wouldn’t be in front of the camera.

I guess some people have all the luck. Take our latest senior Lily. Great eyes, perfect smile, the whole thing. Talk about making our job easy. We took Lily’s senior portraits at and around the Waverly Community House, which for some reason is becoming a popular spot for us. We also did some shots inside her family’s house. We’ll post some of those shots a little later. It’s was a little rainy and damp and just before Hurricane Irene paid a visit to the party. That’s OK. It was the perfect time to break out the umbrella. Lily was a good sport about the whole thing and did whatever goofy stuff we asked her to try.  We can’t thank her enough for that. And a  big thanks to Lily’s mom, Wendy. She might soon have a job as our wardrobe mistress and wrinkle fixer. On to the pics.

“It’s just a little rain, you’re not gonna melt.” Yeah, I can still hear my mom saying it and I find myself saying it to my daughter. As photographers, we have to be prepared for whatever the weather is that day. Sunny skies can present as many problems as rainy days. Cloudy days make for nice even light and spectacularly boring photos without the big puffy clouds to give a nice back drop. I used to worry about the weather constantly before we would head out to a job. There’s a 10 percent chance of rain; it’s too hot, it’s too cold; I think I saw a penguin in my yard; does anyone have the address of that friggin’ groundhog.

No more. Every couple, place and day is different and present all kinds of opportunities. Fortunately for Ellen and Mark, a terrific couple that was referred to us by a friend, they only had to endure a little rain. We decided to wait it out under, cover but if we needed to get the photos done we’re more than willing to trudge out into the elements to get some shots.  These photos come from Wilkes University and Millennium Park along the Susquehanna. Thanks to Ellen and Mark who were so patient and fun to work with. We had an unbelievable time working with you guys and can’t wait until your wedding. If the engagement session is any indication, it’s gonna be a good time. On to the photos!
