So whaddya get when you cross a chemist, a designer, punk rock and fire? Don’t even bother because you’ll never get it.

You get Cori and Todd, an amazing couple we had the pleasure of doing engagement photos for a couple of weeks ago. I was so looking forward to this shoot since the moment we met. You see they both love to spend time together camping and wanted photos to capture that time. Yes! We love it when couples show us who they are and invite us to photograph them doing things they love. So we headed to the Wilkes-Barre area to a camping spot Cori and Todd know, and we got to work. It was terrific. We were in one spot and didn’t have to move around a bunch to find good locations. It was all there for us. Plus we had the added bonus of having just as little gas to pour on the fire when we needed it and voila. And, yes, I am one of those guys who can sit by a fire all night. I’m also one of those guys who also thinks there’s always room for another log on the fire. On to the pics!

We’ve talked in the past a lot about capturing moments and how much Bob and I love to nail a shot at just the right time. But we’d be crazy if we just limited ourselves to that. Sometimes a photo needs a little extra planning, extra time and work in post production. Over the past month, we shared some photos from an engagement session with Lisa and John from Philadelphia. We bounced around the city with them, but we finished after dark on Broad Street in front of City Hall. There was one shot we knew we wanted and we knew it was going to be a little harder to pull off. The idea was to get them standing in the middle of the street with cars streaking past. Without getting too technical, we couldn’t just get the photo perfect straight out of the camera. First, it needed a long exposure. Second, we didn’t just want a couple of cars streaking past them. We wanted a bunch!

So we set up our lights and got Lisa and  John in position and started shooting. I thought it was going to be easier. It’s Broad Street for heaven’s sake. There should be cars all the time. Not so much on a Sunday night. Anyway, the photos were turning out OK, but it wasn’t exactly what we wanted and it was getting bitter cold. Plus, I almost got clipped a couple of times by cars while standing on Broad Street to get the light exactly where we wanted it. All part of the job! But then it happened, a fire truck was coming down Broad with the lights on. OK. Here was the chance. Everyone in position. As the fire truck approached we started shooting. It was maybe our saving grace. With the slow exposure, it was like a wall of light passing Lisa and John. Bob did a bunch of work in post-production, stitching together a few photos from the shoot to produce the final image. I love the result! To me, it’s an iconic Philly photo.  Here’s how it turned out in both color and black and white.

Again, a huge thanks to Lisa and John, who were up to the task of a long day of shooting. Also, Lisa put together a delicious goody basket of baked goods for us to snack on in the car. I’m pretty sure we just left her crumbs by the end of the day!

How in the world did I not know about shooting photos in Moscow? Last week we did some engagement  photos for Danielle and Keith, an unbelievably  fantastic  couple who live in the Moscow area. We did some photos at their house  and at the Moffat Estate. What a place that is! For those of you who have been there and told me that it’s a great place, I’m sorry for not believing  you.  We had a great time exploring the grounds and  grabbing some shots. I was an especially big fan of the covered bridge and the wide open fields. Not a huge fan of climbing the hill back from the bridge!

As for Danielle and Keith, we can’t thank you enough for a great time and for being such a terrific couple to work with. We had a great time with you and can’t wait for the wedding. We also worked with them on a new project. We’ll get to that soon enough but we couldn’t have asked for a better couple. You guys were terrific. So, thank you and we’ll see you soon for the “screening.” In the meantime, here are a few pics  from the day.

It’s First Holy Communion time. Everywhere we turn, friends are lining up their kids for the rite of passage. With that comes the photos. A couple weeks ago we did some for our really close friend Kristen and her daughter Quinn. It was a great, relaxed time having them in the studio. I even showed Quinn a couple of my dance moves. She seemed unimpressed. So if you have a  First Holy Communion coming up, let us know and you can pop in the studio for some shots so you can preserve that memory.  Maybe Bob will dance this time.

Today was a rare day out of the office. So naturally I headed down to Philly, my favorite city, with my favorite little girl to check out the Please Touch Museum – the mecca for kids. Well, maybe not mecca, but it’s gotta be close. It’s located really close to the Philly Zoo and is a  wonderland for kids. It has everything you can imagine, and kids are free to roam  pretty much anywhere they want to explore. It’s not a bad  place for a photographer with his daughter, either. So while she played with race cars,  rubber duckies, and bongos, I played with my camera. Here are some of the pics – hot off the turnpike.

Picking a wedding photographer can be hard. Brides go through all kinds of websites looking for the right style, the right people, the right prices.  When it’s piled on top of finding a venue, florist, D.J. and everything else that goes with it, the whole process can be overwhelming, especially as the bills pile up. This just in … weddings are expensive. We always feel bad when we meet with couples who are so excited by the big day but dependent as they realize they might not be able to get everything they want because the numbers just don’t work.

So Bob and I started thinking about ways to make it easier. What we came up with is something we think brides are going to love and use.  You can now register with us on our website to help spread some of the cost of your photography. It works almost just like it would if you were registering for crystal or a blender.  Family and friends can visit the site and put money toward albums, prints, etc. Your guests just click on the registries tab on our site and go from there. It’s simple to use and a great wedding gift. So here’s to planning the wedding you dreamed of having without having to compromise.
