Two Sticks Studios – Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Poconos Wedding Photographers » Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Poconos Wedding Photography, Senior Photography and Portrait Photography

I go to Philly quite a bit. I’m there at least six or so times a year, so I always thought I was familiar with the city.

It turns out I don’t really know anything about the city. I know plenty about the Phillies ballpark or where the Eagles play. Wanna know about the old Spectrum, I’ve got you covered. I know very little about downtown. I thought I did but once I was there and walking around, I realized I had no idea where I was going. I also didn’t realize what I was missing. Center City is a great time. What’s even better is it’s a rich photo op. Luckily, I had a new lens with me –  a Canon 100 MM macro 2.8.

So like any dedicated photog, I grabbed my new piece of glass and started wandering around, bumping into people and walking into different stores taking pictures. These are some of the things I came up with.

Dinic's at Reading Terminal Market. OMG, good!

Dinic's roast pork. Nuff said

Parking garage has electric car filling stations. One was in use. Pretty cool.

Holt's Cigar Shop downtown. I'm embarrassed to say I left without anything

  • I have no idea what store this was but it’s the greatest book title in history

  • Hard Rock. Touristy but still iconic
  • Tony Luke's in South Philly

    This did not last long

    We need help.

    Stop it. Not that kind.

Bob and I recently produced a couple of videos that we are entering  in a contest that could win us like a gazillion dollars worth of fabulous prizes and maybe our own island. I’m a little hazy on the details but suffice it to say we’d like to win. Now, if we had to rely solely on talent and the quality of the videos, we’d probably be in a little trouble.

Fortunately, we have our friends who  no doubt will want  to help. Yeah, I’m talking to you.

What we need is your vote. On Sunday, we’ll post a link on Facebook on where to go and how to vote.

We would really appreciate you taking the time to vote for us. We’ll save you a spot under a coconut tree.

My internal alarm is all screwed up now. I didn’t realize how deeply weather affects everything from my mood to my thinking until this past week. Temps were in the 70s. The sun was out, birds were chirping. (I don’t know if that parts actually true but you get the idea.) Naturally, I started thinking about engagement photos. No, not mine. Come to think of it, I don’t even have engagement photos. Have I mentioned that my wedding photographer sucked. If not, I’ll be sure to tell you about it in a future post. It’s a story worth telling.

Back to engagement photos. Spring is here and it’s time to get them scheduled and shot. Last week would have been great but there’s still time.

But even more important than the weather is the location – not for the reason you might think. Sure every photographer loves a cool location but it’s not as critical as you might imagine. For engagement photos, Bob and I always recommend picking a place that means something to you. You want your images to be memorable because of the quality but also because of the setting. Maybe it’s a park you both enjoy, a bar where you met or maybe a school you both attended. Whatever, it’s worth thinking about before you schedule your photos. We’re up for anything if you are, so let us know and we’re there.

Here’s a few of our favorites.

Photographers love their gear. The lenses, the bodies, the toys – all of  it.

So I guess it’s not surprising that one of the most frequent questions we get is what’s in our camera bags. We’ll we’re going to show you. I should mention that while the gear you use is important it is no replacement for fundamentals of composition and executing photos the way you envision them. Your imagination is the best tool and no lens is going to top that. With that said I have my eye on a sweet, new 100mm macro. We can’t be helped!

Here’s an overall shot of Bob’s camera bag. It’s the Think Tank Airport TakeOff bag.

Here’s all the stuff crammed into it:

Canon 5d Mark II, Canon 50d, Canon 70-200mm 2.8L IS lensCanon 16-35mm 2.8LSigma 50mm 1.4Sigma 50mm 2.8 macro, 2 Canon 550ex flashes, RadioPopper Px Transmitter and receiver, batteries, chargers, flash gels, snoot, memory cards, reflector and more random accessories
Below is some of my equipment out of the bag. We have a lot of the same gear since it does such a great job.

    Canon 70-200mm 2.8L lens

    Canon 5d Mark II

    Canon 50d
Canon Speedlight 580 EX II flash with Radiopopper transmitter

Believe it or not, it’s that time again. It seems weird to even think about scheduling senior photos already but sure enough here we are about to start spring and juniors need to start giving some thought to getting their portraits done. That way there’s no worry about finding time to do it once school starts. You’re not getting emails from the head of the yearbook committee, saying  “Where’s you senior photo?”

But getting them one in the spring or summer gives you another huge opportunity. It gives you a chance to do it a little different. You always have the option of heading to a studio for a “head shot” or maybe against a white backdrop. It’s fine.  Or you could spend an hour or two at your favorite places. Want to head to a park? Cool. How about the track at your high school? Fine. Maybe the hockey rink is your thing.

The point is there are options for your senior photos. Granted, a lot of your classmates will head to the studio. But you do have a chance for more. The chance for photos that capture you. The chance for your friends to look at your photos and say, “I so wish that’s what I did.”

Give us a call. We’ll help you to get senior photos that you’ll love forever.

Every once in awhile, Bob and I like like to freshen up the site. Not long ago, we added the new intro – which by the way seems to be a big hit. In the last couple of weeks we’ve also updated our galleries with some new photos. They are also set up to show the photos better. The old way was OK, but this is way better and much easier to navigate. We also think it’s a much cleaner look. For those of you who are loyal blog readers you will see some changes there too with larger photos.

Maybe the most notable change to the site is the “Pin It” flag. If you don’t know what it’s for you will soon. It’s a way to show share photos on Pinterest, which is quickly become a behemoth in the world of online sharing.

So what is it?  Just in case you are a little late to the party, here’s a quick explainer.

Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes. Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.

We want our photos to be a resource for brides to be. So if you know anyone getting married, feel free to visit our site and pin stuff you like to help plan your wedding. It could be a pair of shoes you love or a favorite pose from a wedding. Maybe it’s a detail photo of the table settings. Whatever it is, we’ve made it easy to for you so look around pin whatever you like.
